Practo Ray vs Medisray: An Honest, Doctor-by-Doctor Comparison

Practo Ray is a mature clinic software bundled with India’s largest patient marketplace. Medisray is a newer, leaner alternative built for solo doctors and small clinics with a zero-commission model. If you pay booking commissions today and want to stop, Medisray is worth evaluating. If you depend on Practo’s patient discovery volume, switching has a real cost.

What is Practo Ray, and who uses it today?

Practo Ray is the clinic management arm of Practo, India’s largest online doctor discovery platform. It bundles EMR, appointment scheduling, and billing with direct patient leads from Practo’s 20+ million monthly users.

Practo was founded in 2008 and today lists over 100,000 doctors across India. Ray, its clinic software product, became the default choice for urban doctors in the 2010s precisely because signing up for the software meant visibility on the marketplace. The two are closely tied: a doctor on Practo Ray gets appointment requests from Practo’s patient-facing app, and those appointments carry a booking commission.

As of 2026, Practo Ray remains the dominant name in the category. It has deep EMR templates, a mature billing module, and a large support team. For doctors in Tier 1 cities who rely on Practo’s patient volume, the platform delivers real value. The tradeoff is cost: every online booking through Practo carries a commission, the exact rate of which is not publicly listed and varies by specialty and city.

What is Medisray, and what makes it different?

Medisray is a clinic management software built by Cyberx Info System. Its defining feature is a zero-commission model: doctors pay a flat monthly subscription and keep 100% of every consultation fee, with no per-booking charge and no UPI gateway markup.

Medisray was built specifically for solo doctors and small clinics in Tier 2 and Tier 3 India, where two conditions that shaped Practo’s design: reliable broadband and high patient-app adoption cannot be assumed. The product includes appointment scheduling, EMR, e-prescriptions,  GST billing and WhatsApp reminders. It is DPDP-aligned and hosted on ISO 27001-certified infrastructure in India.

The product is in active beta as of mid-2026. That means some enterprise features found in Practo Ray: deep lab integrations, insurance claim workflows, hospital-grade IPD modules are either in development or not yet available.

How do the two products compare across 7 dimensions?

The seven dimensions below are the ones Indian clinic owners ask about most when evaluating both products. Each entry reflects publicly available information as of June 2026.

One dimension worth expanding: commission math. A solo GP in Lucknow doing 200 bookings a month at ₹500 per consult, with 50% booked online through a platform, pays ₹5,000 to ₹15,000 per month in booking commission depending on the platform’s rate. Over a year, that is ₹60,000 to ₹1,80,000. On Medisray, that number is zero. The subscription cost is the only cost.

The right choice depends on three things: how much of your patient volume comes from Practo’s marketplace, how many locations you run, and how much you are currently paying in commissions.

Here are three realistic doctor profiles.

Profile 1: Dr. Priya Sharma, Dermatologist, South Delhi 10 years in practice. 70% of new patients come from Practo discovery. 3 doctors in the clinic. Uses Practo Ray’s IPD module and insurance claim workflow. For Dr. Sharma, switching away from Practo Ray means losing significant patient acquisition. The commission she pays is a marketing cost that is buying real patient volume.

Recommendation: stay on Practo Ray. Medisray does not offer a patient marketplace.

Profile 2: Dr. Arjun Mehta, General Practitioner, Indore 4 years in practice. Walk-in heavy OPD. Patients found through word of mouth, Google, and a WhatsApp group of local apartment residents. Currently on a “free” clinic app that takes 12% commission on the 80 bookings a month that come through the app. Monthly commission cost: ₹4,800. Annual: ₹57,600. Uses EMR for basic SOAP notes and e-prescriptions.

Recommendation: Medisray is a strong fit. The commission saving alone pays for several years of subscription. EMR depth is sufficient for a GP OPD.

Profile 3: Dr. Sunita Rao, Pediatrician, Nagpur 8 years in practice. 2-doctor clinic. Currently on Practo Ray. Uses IAP vaccination schedule tracking. Gets roughly 30 bookings a month from Practo. Runs ABHA linking at check-in. Main frustration: support response times and opaque billing.

Recommendation: evaluate Medisray carefully. Medisray’s pediatric template includes IAP immunisation schedule and growth charts. The migration is viable. But verify the specific IAP features with a demo before committing.

How do you migrate from Practo Ray to Medisray in 5 days?

Migration from Practo Ray to Medisray takes 5 working days for a single-doctor clinic. The steps are: export your data, clean it, import into Medisray, run both systems in parallel for 3 days, then cut over.

Here is the day-by-day breakdown.

Day 1: Export your Practo Ray data.

Log in to Practo Ray, go to Settings → Data Export, and request a full patient data export in CSV format. Practo Ray provides this on request. If the self-serve export is not visible in your plan, raise a support ticket. Under DPDP Act principles, you are entitled to your data.

Day 2: Clean the CSV.

Open in Excel or Google Sheets. Remove duplicate entries, standardise phone number format to 10 digits without country code, and flag any patients with missing contact details. This step is worth doing properly, a clean import saves weeks of confusion later.

Day 3: Import into Medisray.

Medisray’s onboarding team handles the import during the guided setup call. Share the cleaned CSV. Patient records, appointment history, and basic EMR notes migrate across. Custom fields from Practo Ray that have no equivalent in Medisray are flagged before the import so nothing is lost silently.

Day 4 to 5: Parallel run.

Run both systems simultaneously. New appointments go into Medisray. Check that reminders fire correctly, billing produces GST-compliant invoices, and the patient records look right on the Medisray screen. Identify any gaps.

Day 5 (end of day): Cut over.

Stop taking new bookings on Practo Ray. Inform returning patients of the new booking link. Update your Google Business Profile, website, and any printed materials with the new link. Done.

Medisray’s onboarding team provides hands-on help for every step above at no additional cost during beta.

What to do next

If you have read this comparison and think Medisray might be the right fit for your clinic, the lowest-friction next step is a 15-minute demo. The Medisray team will walk through the zero-commission math on your actual clinic numbers, show you the EMR templates for your specialty, and answer the specific questions this post may not have covered.

Frequently asked questions

Q: Can I use both Practo Ray and Medisray at the same time?

Yes, during a transition period. Many clinics run both in parallel for 1 to 2 weeks while migrating patient data and testing workflows. Long-term, running two clinic management systems creates duplicate records and billing errors. Most clinics commit to one within a month.

Q: Is Medisray’s EMR as detailed as Practo Ray’s for specialties like dermatology or orthopedics?

Medisray ships specialty templates for GP, dental, pediatric, derma, ENT, ortho, and gynae. For most single-specialty small clinics, the depth is sufficient. For clinics with complex lab integrations, insurance claim workflows, or IPD management, verify specific requirements on a demo before deciding.

Q: What happens to my Practo Ray data if I switch?

Under DPDP Act principles, your patient data belongs to you. Practo Ray provides data export on request in CSV format. Medisray’s onboarding team assists with the import. No patient history is lost in a properly executed migration.

Q: Does switching to Medisray mean I lose my existing patients?

No. Your existing patient relationships stay with you. They are in your clinic’s records, not on any platform. Returning patients book through your clinic’s own booking link, WhatsApp, or phone. New patient discovery depends on your own channels: Google, referrals, and word of mouth.

Q: Is there a free trial before I commit to a paid plan?

Yes. Medisray’s free beta plan gives you full product access: EMR, scheduling, billing, and e-prescriptions for one doctor, with no credit card required. You can test the product with real patients before deciding on a paid plan.
